So I broke down and bought Lucky Palms despite the fact my first reaction was.... "I live in the desert. Why for the love of God would I WANT that?"

Then I saw it..... and it was everything I absolutely love about the whole Northern part of Arizona. (Canyon country, basically, Grand Canyon, Canyon de Shelly, Painted Desert.  All of it.) The pretty little cactus, the beautiful vistas. The whole world gives me beautiful vista moodlet!

So I took my me-Sim... made him a boy for kicks, made him slim and put him in the town with a couple Gypsy Vanners, a Newfoundland puppy and a clouded leopard kitty!

Aidan and Zoey
I named boy-self Aidan because I like that name! (and the male variation of my name annoys me anyways so... I went all out) The Newfie-pup is Zoey. (See what I did thar? )

Aidan's Traits:  Hopeless Romantic, Dislikes kids, Artistic, Equestrian, Computer Whiz (if there was any doubt this was originated from me. :p )
Zoey's traits:  Likes Swimming, Quiet, Friendly. (I got her from EmmaBananana)
Romello's Traits:  Obedient, Nervous, Piggy
MockingJay's Traits: Shy, Neat, Brave
Shyera's Traits: Shy, Hunter, Independant

Aidan's house at sunrise! I live out in the salt-flats area! Because I love the charming stuff out there!

I love the cute little plants! The horse he's on is named MockingJay. She has an orange arrow tattoo'd to her right shoulder.

So many cute things in this town, like this little gas station.

I even put the little Katie Perry pool near the house because I thought it was just too cute.

Catching a crow near the science center

And fireflies! Aidan tried catching a lizard too but it got away. :(

Aidan on Romello (I remade him!)

The Botanical Gardens seems to be the place the unicorns gather, here. I guess they love the little Cactus shaped pool!

Taking a walk.  Yep, definitely beautiful Vista moodlet!

A shot of the city hall and botanical garden! See? Cactus pool!

Ahhhh so pretty! :D Are there any adobe-style houses?

Laser tag! I've been playing with my kitties (the alive kind). I found that crumpled newspaper and the laser dot work together really well.

This picture made me think how cool it would be if the Mothership from Close Encounters rose up from behind that butte...

Oh my! Yes! Now I want to put an alien crashsite somewhere in the landscape.

I haven't seen any adobe-style houses, yet. I'm going to explore a bit more to see if I missed them.
Although I MIGHT be able to pull one off, myself. The trick is getting that curve-edge look to the corners/edges.

THis town's actually making me want to buy the little Fiesta pack off hte market.

The curved look would be key. *nods*

The Fiesta pack looks cool, I love the furniture that comes with it.

Oh, I forgot to say before, your alter ego is very cute! :D

Yeah that's the trick. I'd have to look at some of the building elements because most Adobe houses I've seen are very rounded on the roof-lines. They'd wind up being very squared. That might be the closest one can get, though.

And yeah, I fell in love with that Fiesta set when it first came out. But I also wanted the Indian set so I had to wait. I'll pick it up when I see it pop up on sale. :)

And thank you! I don't have freckles but the features are about as close as i could get to me. I need to post pictures of the regular version. She's on my desktop, though.

Horse Size Sliders
I can't seem to get the reply thing to work over on Tumblr, sorry. Thought I'd send you the link here.

The size sliders are on the Equus Forum (I think they'll be released to everyone when he's happy with them) and you'll have to login to view and download them:

http://forum.equus-sims.com/index.cgi?board=gamemodssub&action=display&thread=1420

Have fun! :D

Re: Horse Size Sliders
I actually finally registered there. Although I'm just lurking now! :) Thanks for the link! I can' wait to make a pony for Tal's ranch, now! YAY! He has a little sorrel shetland pony in my RP version of him so.... Merry will now be a reality!

.. and yeah, I'm with Pixel on Tumblr. Tumblr is dumblr when it comes to communication back and forth.

Re: Horse Size Sliders
Lol at the 'Tumblr is dumblr'.

I'm hoping for a belly slider too. Lots of ponies have big round bellies. Especially Shetlands. They're so cute, all that long hair (mane) and the littleness...

Re: Horse Size Sliders
Yeah I stumbled on that problem when I made Merry. I think that might be manageable with an increase on the slider numbers, though, since there's a belly slider already.

Re: Horse Size Sliders
Ah. Light bulb moment. Of course, Twallan's mod allows for an increase, though I'm not sure if it works with pets, will have to try.

Saw your pony on Tumblr. Very cute :)

Re: Horse Size Sliders
I'm not sure if it works on them, either, as I tried it and couldn't get Merry's belly to slide out any more than it was. Ah well. :(

He's still cute. I'm still sad the children stretch out when they ride, though.

Re: Horse Size Sliders
I think that the person who did the size slider is working on something to change the belly - or at least the width?

No mention of him tackling the stretching children though, which is a shame.

Re: Horse Size Sliders
Yeah, I don't think that's something that's as easily dealt with with a mod. I mean I have a sneaking suspicion that to do that would require a full scale new animation for the kids to sit on them.

The colours over at Aidan's place are gorgeous as is the view... loving that first picture, what a lovely place to live.

I can see shades of Close Encounters too in that mountain/hill, also shades of blancmange mould and I have a sudden craving for blancmange... not sure if I've had it since I was a child.

Cactus pool! Then that shot, underneath, pulled back from the town centre, could almost see a cactus in that too, in the road layout.

Really like the look of the place, and wow, to actually live somewhere similar in real life!

Oh wow! I didn't even realize that the streets were layed out in a cactus style, too.

And yeah, I didn't even see the Devil's Tower thing until Pixelcurious mentioned it! There's a lot of cool little details like that! :)

As for living in a place like this, sadly, I don't. When I first heard they were adding a desert world, my first thought of the desert is more what I grew up in, theSonoran desert down in Phoenix and Tucson where I used to live and I hated it because it was so brown and blah. It's more dirt, scrubby bushes and jumping cactus and Saguaros everywhere versus Northern Arizona desert which is Grand Canyon, Canyon de Shelly, Painted desert desert. I like Northern desert better.

Although they don't grow in the desert like Lucky Palms is... I was still sad to see no saguaros in the pack.

Aw, must've misread about you living in the desert, sorry. Thanks for that link - the desert in bloom looks lovely but I guess it doesn't look like that all the time.

It's so alien to where I live. It rains a lot in Cornwall in the UK. It's mostly green here, with hedgerows and gorse bushes, covered in yellow flowers most of the year. The only thing close to a desert are the Towans, which are sand dunes with maran grass. I've only ever visited one desert, in Dubai, again that was similiar to the Towans - sand dunes without the marran grass. I've never actually visited a desert like either of yours, though I have watched a load of cowboy films whilst growing up.

I've seen the Saguaros on tv. Incredibly huge and distinctive. Found some and downloaded. There's links over on my tumblr. The one on the Cowboy download page isn't quite as 'realistic' as 'Helen's'. http://sims-new.my1.ru/forum/4-20-11#901

Actually, need to go check just what I installed (think those ones were the sim3packs) as I don't appear to have the round ones that remind me of the small mammalia cacti that we get over here as houseplants...

Yeah I do live in the desert... I'm in central Arizona. Sadly my desert area is more like the link I posted you with the scrubby bushes and cactus. Arizona's kinda diverse in it's desert appearances. You start going way north into the Four Corners area and it's distinctly different from the Sonoran desert area which is my area and goes South. (it gets even more scrubby and brown when you get into Phoenix and Tucscon.)

But yeah when the cacti bloom it is pretty, sadly where I lived, they didn't bloom a whole lot.. so it was perpetual blah brown. :( Not those beautiful red rocks and peaks like you see in Lucky Palms.

Saguaros are distinctive, though. Sims 2 had them. They're specific only to the Sonoran desert area, nowhere else. I don't know if they were taking that into account when they made Lucky, or just forgot them. But I still feel sad they were forgotten. They're sort of the 'iconic' desert plant. That link doesn't work, sadly. :(

From watching the cowboy films, I was under the mistaken impression that the Saguaros were virtually everywhere that there was desert in the US. On a more real note, I'd also heard that the large ones are very old and that people are asked not to shoot them.

Not sure why the link didn't work, it does for me. If you want the link directly to the download page, it's here: http://letitbit.net/download/57393.54ea35fe09d8cba12224895ea186/Helen-Outdoor_Updated_for_patch_1.26.rar.html

It took about 3.5 minutes to download. I had to click something under the green strip that says 'install and download fast' and ignore all the other places that seem like you should click.

After clicking that slow install (the 3 minute one)another page loaded, then had to wait until a code appeared under that long green strip, once it did, and I entered it, it was fine.

(Sorry, that's probably overkill on the instructions, I apologise.)

If there's still no joy, let me know and if you really want the Saguaro I'll reupload for you. :)

Yes, well, ya know. Hollywood. Saguaros sort of got lumped into 'Desert tree' all around. Then again, most of those old westerns are taking place in the Arizona deserts, any ways or California far south. Likely filmed in Tucson, since we used to have a film studio down there. So it stands to reason.

Saguaros are protected since their growth area is so small. It's illegal to take them down, shoot them, kill them or anything. Also dangerous. You knock one down, it's about a ton of water and can kill you if it lands on you.

There's an old urban legend (not sure if it's true) about a guy who drove around the desert plowing into them with his truck and one fell forward onto it and crushed the truck and him inside. Still, good cautionary tale as it's possible.

It took me some fiddling with the site but I finally got it after messing with all the spam-ware. So now I 'can haz cactus!' :) But thanks for offering!

I like the poetic justice in the urban legend.

Glad you finally got them :)

That ad/spam was a real pain. I'm beginning to detest the sight of Llivid (think that's one of the ones spammed everywhere.)

Yeah, and that was one of the more mild spam-attacks. The sites the Asian content makers are abyssmal. I can,t find ANYTHING on them, even translating.

And yes, I love the karma of that story too. I want to believe it's real because that just makes me laugh more but I don't think it is. Still, an awesome story, just the same. I mean saguaros are hugely heavy because they're all water. So there's tons of water in them.
